The Fall of the Military in Syria and Algeria… Checkmate

The Algerian regime is in a historical impasse, and moving forward blindly is no longer even in the interest of the authorities. It is imperative to implement a true national reconciliation, starting with a reexamination of the message addressed by the moudjahid Mouloud Hamrouche to the military through the newspaper “El Watan” in 2019. In this message, he warned that failing to address the blockages would have dire consequences.
Today, after the fall of the Syrian regime, Algeria stands on the edge of the abyss. It is essential to listen to the courageous and honest message of Mr. Hamrouche, who reminded us of the slogan raised by the popular Hirak movement: “The army and the people are brothers”. He also openly supported the idea of the Ministry of Defense relinquishing its grip on power and returning it to the people, as mandated by the Constitution.
Is there another solution? The game is deadlocked both internally and externally. Betting on ignorance and stubbornness, persisting in repeating stagnation and political madness, will not change the course of history or stop the inevitabilities of nature. Neither the security apparatus, nor propaganda media, nor repression and intimidation can suppress the Algerian people’s will to live and their rejection of enslavement.
The Algerian people are witnessing the fall of a tyrannical regime that excelled in murder, torture, and oppression, while relying on an oversized security apparatus and foreign support against an unarmed population whose only possession is their will for freedom.
Will the Algerian military listen to the voice of history? Or will it try to buy time and resort to forced survival techniques, despite its evident failure in addressing even the simplest issues?
The regime has shown an inability to correctly interpret events and a complete lack of capacity to govern a country of Algeria’s size and importance. The real threat to the Algerian authorities comes from within themselves: this total political death and descent into a state of non-governance and chaos, as Mr. Hamrouche warned, necessitates urgent change.
Although I am convinced of the inevitable fate of the Algerian military, that it will continue resisting history and the people’s will until a revolution overthrows it, I wanted to issue a call to reason, to justice, and to the homeland, through the newspaper “Le Méditerranéen 24”.
