No Case of Monkeypox in Mauritania

The Mauritanian Ministry of Health has denied the presence of a monkeypox case in Mauritania, clarifying that the tests on the concerned individual showed no infection with monkeypox, despite initial suspicion due to symptoms, particularly the rash.

In a clarification, the ministry stated that the case involved a 38-year-old citizen who arrived at Sheikh Zayed Hospital on the evening of Saturday, August 17, 2024, complaining of fever and a rash. After examination by the on-duty medical team and assessment of his condition, the central monitoring and control services were notified of his situation.

The ministry added that this was done in accordance with recommendations to address the monkeypox outbreak, including taking samples and conducting necessary tests to determine the nature of his condition.

The ministry urged medical teams to remain vigilant, actively search for potential cases, report them immediately, and manage confirmed cases. It also called on citizens to be more vigilant, cooperate, and follow the issued health instructions.

The public was reassured that the necessary precautions have been taken to enhance vigilance, strengthen epidemic surveillance, disseminate relevant memos and protocols, improve diagnostic capabilities of laboratories, and place the National Center for Public Health Emergency Response on alert for any potential emergencies.
