Algerian Presidential Elections… Between the Will of the People and the Will of the Authorities

An appeal to all citizens, all social classes, organizations, and free individuals:
Wake up before it’s too late and this precious opportunity is lost, just as many opportunities have passed without being fully utilized. Beware of repeating past mistakes from previous years and terms…

  • After September 7, 2024, will sovereignty belong to the people or to the authorities? How will this happen? What is the plan or plans?

Activists and intellectuals of the people must defeat the authorities so that the movement can return in a mature form, not an exploited one…

  • What type of participation will put an end to the dominance of the authorities over the people?

To emerge from the era of mediocrity and its men, and to restore the dignity of the state, not the dignity of the authorities, we need an opposing plan to the elections organized by the authorities and turn them into popular elections.

  • What are the benefits and harms of participation for the authorities and the people?
  • What are the benefits and harms of boycotting for the authorities and the people?

The presidential elections are an invaluable opportunity to prepare for the return of the movement and change in favor of the nation.

  • To ruin the authorities’ celebration for the first time in history in a way they don’t expect, and without paying the price that we would suffer during the next term…
  1. So that the people can regain control of the army – the soldiers, non-commissioned officers, and lower-ranking officers – from the corrupt generals.
  2. So that the state has its army, and not the authorities having their army, as it has been since independence.
  • The presidential elections are a farce and a play that must be stopped to save the people, or we will be unable to prevent the hijacking of the presidency and its piracy.
The nation’s situation has deteriorated to a disastrous point after the manipulation of the movement and its dismantling, leading to increased corruption in all its forms, family and social disintegration, and economic collapse.
  • The useful novelty: No elections for the gangs, no, no, no…
  • The slogan of Tebboune’s campaign: “For a Victorious Algeria” really means “For a Victorious Authority.” The alternative that must be seriously prepared is “For a Victorious People against a Corrupt Authority” that has corrupted society, tampered with values, and falsified data.
  • The idea or proposal of boycotting, which increases abstention, is currently not useful, but rather harmful, as it serves only the authorities by the participation of their supporters.
  • Tebboune’s first term was worse than Bouteflika’s fourth term without question, and the second will be even more dangerous for the people, the country, the values of society, and its sovereignty.
  • The evaluation of Tebboune’s achievements should not be left to the authorities’ bodies and media, as proper and accurate evaluation is the responsibility of neutral and honest experts.

I propose three steps:

  1. Give the people the freedom to choose whether to participate or not through multiple debates, inviting both supporters and opponents, to discuss the advantages and disadvantages for the people and the authorities during the second week of the electoral campaign.
  2. Address the issue of participation seriously and massively, including those who opt for null votes, and support their opinions with appropriate examples from several countries during the third week of the electoral campaign.
  3. Call on voters massively to vote for or against a candidate by placing an image of the candidate, either intact or crossed out, making it null. It is necessary to respect the voter’s will freely, while intensifying oversight in the centers and polling stations, ensuring the receipt of the official minutes. Thus, each candidate will have valid votes and nullified ballots that will be counted accurately.

Therefore, I urge you to change the stance on the elections by calling for participation and challenging the system in an organized and peaceful manner, better than we did in the movement, by consulting and discussing with honest and loyal activists, to mobilize as many sites, platforms, and social categories as possible, even if some differ in details, as the matter is serious and the opportunity is present.

  • Communication and coordination are essential with all activists in various fields: human rights, media, society, politics, culture, economy, education, administration, commerce, agriculture, transport, and artisans… to create an electoral wave that leaves no room for the corrupt, fraudsters, cheaters, and mercenaries to plot and sow chaos, forcing them to think about hiding or fleeing, carrying what is light in weight and high in value.

The eyes and legs of the loyal opposition, aware of the corrupt and manipulative tactics of the authorities, must plan to prevent a second round and pass it fraudulently.

  • It is in the interest of the active opposition, loyal to its values, its people, and its country, to prepare with determination, perseverance, and challenge, using two main and powerful means:
  1. Mobilize millions of voters honestly and justly to cast null ballots for all candidates.
  2. Insist on rigorous oversight in the centers, especially in the polling stations, during the counting and accurate tallying of valid votes and null ballots for each candidate, ensuring the receipt of official minutes. Then, each development will be addressed accordingly.

Proposed slogans:

  • No to Tebboune’s second term
  • No to rule by intelligence and generals
  • No to the piracy and monopoly of the presidency
  • No to the exploitation of the generals by the army
  • No to the control of the corrupt over the nation
  • No to the exchange of power for wealth
  • No to scholars of the authorities, yes to scholars of the nation
  • No to the exploitation of mosques by the authorities
  • No to the exposed electoral farce
  • No to threats against the people with border issues
