The Hashtag “Manich Radi”: A Cry of Defiance Shaking Algeria’s Military Regime

For the past few days, hundreds of thousands of Algerians have embraced the hashtag “Manich Radi” (“مانيـش راضي”, meaning “I am not satisfied”). This slogan has become a symbol of popular outrage against an aging, corrupt regime that clings desperately to its privileges while silencing dissenting voices.
A Wave of Anger Sweeping Through Algeria
The military junta, which has ruled the country with an iron fist for decades, is now facing an ever-growing wave of protests. This movement is no longer limited to the youth; it involves all segments of society. Women, men, young and old, openly share poignant testimonies on social media about the misery and oppression they endure daily.
Squandered Wealth, A Sacrificed People
Algeria is sitting on a treasure trove of natural resources such as oil, gas, and precious metals, which could make it a prosperous nation. However, these resources benefit only a small elite of oligarchs and corrupt generals.
While the population suffers from poverty, unemployment, and precarious conditions, the regime prefers to invest in weaponry and support for the Polisario militias, fueling futile conflicts instead of addressing its people’s urgent needs.
Activists of “Manich Radi” tirelessly denounce this social injustice, emphasizing that the country’s wealth should be used to build hospitals, schools, and infrastructure rather than fund military adventures or fill offshore bank accounts.
The Return of Hirak: A New Nightmare for the Junta
The “Manich Radi” campaign revives memories of the Hirak, the popular movement of 2019 that nearly overthrew the regime. After a temporary calm caused by hollow promises and the COVID-19 pandemic, the Algerian streets seem ready to reignite the flame of protest.
Viral videos from across the country reveal an outraged Algeria, determined to end the rule of its oppressors. Images of an abandoned and forgotten Algeria shared on social media resonate as a warning: the people’s patience has limits.
A Regime on Its Last Breath
In response to this growing movement, the Algerian regime resorts to the classic tools of aging dictatorships: propaganda, repression, and intimidation. Yet, these measures seem ineffective.
The official media, disconnected from the people’s reality, struggles to curb the momentum of “Manich Radi”, which spreads like wildfire. The junta’s fear is evident: what began as a simple hashtag has become a powerful movement led by youth determined to break the chains of fear.
Algeria on the Brink of Change?
Many observers believe that “Manich Radi” could be the prelude to a new era in Algerian history. If the Hirak opened a crack in the military fortress, this new wave of protests could bring it down entirely.
Exhausted by seeing its wealth plundered and rights violated, the Algerian people appear ready to return to the streets. Isolated and weakened, the junta may soon face its worst nightmare: a nation determined to reclaim its dignity.
