Morocco continues to progress: Launch of a new high-speed train project to enhance the transport network

The Ministry of Transport has announced that it has officially begun the process of acquiring land at the exit of Marrakech and the entrance to Agadir, in preparation for the launch of works to extend the high-speed train (TGV) line to the Souss region Agadir. This step is part of a rapid wave of major infrastructure projects taking place in the kingdom, in line with a strategic vision aimed at connecting its regions and strengthening balanced development.
After the great success of the first phase, which connected Tangier to Casablanca, passing through Rabat and Kenitra, the project now moves to its next phase. With the beginning of land acquisition, it seems that connecting the north and south with a modern and fast transport network is only a matter of time.
The arrival of the high-speed train in Agadir will mark a qualitative leap in the local economy. The region, known for its tourism and agricultural importance, will benefit from an increased flow of tourists and investors, which will enhance its competitiveness both domestically and internationally, and facilitate the movement of its residents. The project is also expected to create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities during the construction phase and beyond, along with positive impacts on vital sectors such as transport, logistics, industry, and services.
The extension of the TGV to Agadir represents a tangible realization of the royal vision for building a unified and connected Morocco, where distances are shortened and geographical barriers between regions are removed. In light of current climate and economic challenges, investment in rail transport stands out as a long-term strategic choice, aligning with the country’s commitments to green development and reducing its carbon footprint.
