Mohamed Tadjadit, the Hirak’s Poet Back in Court
Appeal Hearing Sees Call for Harsher Sentence

An appeal hearing was held this Thursday at the Algiers Court (criminal chamber) for political activist and detainee Mohamed Tadjadit, also known as “the poet of the Hirak“.
In a statement shared on social media, lawyer Fetta Sadat said the appeal concerns a verdict delivered by the Rouiba Court (Algiers jurisdiction) on January 20, 2025, sentencing Mohamed Tadjadit to five years in prison, a 200,000 dinar fine, and the confiscation of seized items.
Charges Against Tadjadit
Mohamed Tadjadit is facing several charges:
Undermining national territorial integrity
Displaying publications, videos, and audio recordings that harm national interests
Inciting an unarmed gathering using information and communication technologies
Insulting a constituted body
(Articles 79, 96, 100, 146 of the Algerian Penal Code)
Between Sentence Aggravation and Calls for Acquittal
The public prosecutor requested a harsher sentence, while the defense called for full acquittal, citing the “complete absence of elements that constitute the alleged offenses.”
Next Hearing Date
The case has been postponed for further examination to May 8, 2025.
