URGENT – EXCLUSIVE: Morocco Releases Five Algerian Soldiers Lost at the Border

Moroccan authorities on Monday released a commander and four Algerian soldiers who had strayed into the border area of M’hamid El Ghizlane, demonstrating a calming stance despite recent tensions between the two countries, according to a well-informed source in Rabat.
The five soldiers, traveling in an ANPA vehicle, entered Moroccan territory at around 9:50 a.m. while searching for desert truffles.
Their release occurred swiftly at 11:05 a.m. on the same day, following identity verification.
Morocco’s measured handling of this incident contrasts sharply with Algeria’s approach in previous border incidents, such as the tragic case of jet-skiers where Algerian forces opened fire on civilians.
Rabat’s decision for a swift release of the soldiers reflects its commitment to regional stability, despite the ongoing tensions between the two countries.
It is worth noting that relations between Morocco and Algeria remain highly strained, marked by closed borders and the severance of diplomatic ties initiated by Algeria.
Recent years have seen an escalation of diplomatic and border incidents, further complicating relations between the two nations.
