Second Algerian TikToker Arrested for Advocating Terrorism

Two Algerian influencers have been arrested, one in Brest and the other near Grenoble, for videos posted on TikTok accused of advocating terrorism and issuing death threats.
According to Camille Miansoni, the public prosecutor in Brest, the two men were taken into custody on charges of “advocating acts of terrorism and inciting hatred and violence.” Investigations are ongoing.
In the evening, Bruno Retailleau, who had already reported the first arrest, announced the detention of another Algerian influencer known as “Imadtintin.” The Minister of the Interior commented on X: “He too will face justice for his heinous statements on TikTok. No tolerance.”

Arrest for Death Threats

The second influencer was arrested in Échirolles around 7:30 PM and placed in custody for “death threats expressed in writing, images, or other means motivated by race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion,” according to Grenoble prosecutor Eric Vaillant.

Videos Encouraging Attacks

On December 31, a TikTok video sparked outrage. The influencer, based in Brittany and followed by hundreds of thousands, spoke vehemently in Arabic with French subtitles, calling for attacks in France and violence in Algeria.
Alain Espinasse, the Prefect of Finistère, stated that he acted immediately after being notified by the police about the video. The content was also reported to the Pharos platform, which monitors illegal online activities.
Bruno Retailleau confirmed on X that the influencer, known as “Zazouyoussef,” will face justice. TikTok has since banned his account and removed several copies of the offending videos.

A Troubled Past

Youcef A., born in Mostaganem, Algeria, arrived in France in 2020 and obtained a residence permit in March 2023. However, after participating in riots in June 2023, he was sentenced to 12 months in prison for vandalizing a sports complex in Brest. He appealed the decision, allowing him to avoid immediate incarceration.
When his residence permit expired in March 2024, he was issued an Obligation to Leave French Territory (OQTF). Since then, he has been listed in the Wanted Persons File (FPR), although he was not classified as an “S” file or identified for radicalization.

Calls for Violence

According to a video published by “Imadtintin” and reposted by an Algerian activist, explicit calls to “burn alive, kill, and rape on French soil” were made. The video was removed after the arrest of “Zazouyoussef.”
