Protest Statement from the World Amazigh Assembly Against the Hostility of Algerian Military Authorities Towards Morocco’s Unity
We received with great astonishment and deep regret the announcement by Algerian authorities regarding the organization of what they called the “Day of the Rif.” This provocative initiative clearly aims to sow division, dismantle the bonds among the Moroccan people, and harm its territorial and historical unity.
We, at the Amazigh World Assembly, strongly condemn this hostile act, which is part of a series of provocations by the Algerian state against Morocco. This act reflects malicious intentions to exploit Amazigh issues opportunistically, far from any good faith. The Amazigh people, whether from the Rif or other regions of Tamazgha (North Africa or the Greater Maghreb), have always been and remain a symbol of unity and solidarity, defending their just causes within the framework of their country’s sovereignty and national unity.
We assert that any attempt to exploit the Amazigh name of “Rif” for dubious and malicious political agendas will deceive no one. These maneuvers will neither weaken the strong bonds uniting the Rif’s population with other components of the Moroccan and Tamazgha peoples, nor undermine the struggles of the Amazigh Movement for social justice and recognition of legitimate cultural and identity rights.
We also call on Algerian authorities to cease exploiting Amazigh issues to serve their hostile objectives against Morocco. We urge them to focus on the genuine concerns of their people instead of interfering in others’ affairs and attempting to sow discord between nations.
Thus, we declare to the national and international public the following:
- Our absolute condemnation of this maneuver, reflecting Algeria’s hostile intentions toward Morocco and its territorial unity.
- Our unwavering commitment to Morocco’s national and territorial unity, encompassing its diverse cultural and identity components, primarily the Amazigh identity.
- Our call to Amazigh Movements in Tamazgha to reject any attempt to exploit the Amazigh cause for political agendas that fuel division and hostility.
- Our affirmation that the genuine Amazigh struggle is based on principles of unity, brotherhood, and solidarity among peoples, not on spreading divisions or submitting to dubious agendas.
In conclusion, we reaffirm that the Rif will remain an integral part of Morocco’s national fabric and that Amazigh identity will continue to symbolize unity and cohesion among the sons and daughters of this Tamazgha nation.
Signed: Rachid Raha, President of the Amazigh World Assembly
