UN Approves Funding Program for 6 Tunisian Municipalities
According to the website “Tounesna,” the United Nations Capital Development Fund based in Tunisia has approved a proposal submitted by the municipality of Douz in the Kebili governorate. This funding aims to support projects focused on climate change mitigation, providing financing for various interventions in this area over a period of 4 years.
TAP reported that Zied Belkri, the manager of the Douz municipality, announced that Douz’s proposal, along with those of 5 other municipalities, was approved. Each municipality will receive an initial funding of 400,000 dinars annually for 4 years. The spokesperson mentioned that the interventions will target limiting, mitigating, or adapting to climate change. He emphasized that the Douz municipality has decided that the 2024 intervention will primarily focus on implementing energy-efficient projects in administrative buildings, including the municipal warehouse, the sports complex, and the covered hall, by utilizing alternative energy sources for lighting or water conservation. Additionally, reforestation work is planned for the eastern entrance of the city, known as the Matmata road entrance, with studies underway for installing irrigation channels and photovoltaic panels on administrative buildings.
