Ukrainian Military Aircraft Crash of an “F-16”
Ukraine announced on Thursday that an American-made F-16 fighter jet, recently acquired, crashed while intercepting a Russian airstrike, resulting in the death of its pilot.
The Ukrainian military said: “While approaching the next target, contact was lost with one of the aircraft. It was later confirmed that the aircraft had crashed, resulting in the pilot’s death,” according to Agence France-Presse.
The Wall Street Journal reported that an American official said an Ukrainian F-16 aircraft crashed on Monday.
The official stated that the incident was apparently not caused by enemy fire, but was likely due to a pilot error, according to Reuters.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday that Kyiv used F-16 fighter jets received from Western partners to fend off recent massive Russian airstrikes.
Zelensky said in a press conference: “We destroyed missiles and drones using F-16s,” also repeating that the number of aircraft received by Kyiv was not “enough,” adding that the war with Russia will eventually end through dialogue, but Ukraine wants to strengthen its position through battlefield gains.
