The United States rejects the designation of the MAK as “terrorist” and condemns the manipulations of the Algerian regime
In a world where governments strive to gain credibility, the Algerian military regime continues to stand out with its pathetic insistence on labeling the Movement for the Self-Determination of Kabylia (MAK) as “terrorist.” But the charade is coming to an end: the United States has thrown a wrench into the works, denouncing this label as a pure political invention devoid of any basis.
The MAK, scapegoat of a failing regime:
For years, the MAK, a peaceful movement advocating for the rights of Kabyles, has endured verbal and repressive attacks from a panicked regime. Accused of all imaginable evils – from international conspiracies to existential threats to national security – the MAK has become the perfect target for a junta unable to face its own failures.
Algeria, in its institutionalized paranoia, sees conspiracies around every corner. And when it finds no evidence, it creates it. The result? An arbitrary designation of the MAK as a terrorist organization in 2021, reaffirmed in 2023, without ever providing a shred of tangible proof.
Washington sets the record straight:
In its annual terrorism report, the U.S. State Department delivered a definitive verdict: the accusations made by Algiers against the MAK are purely political. None of the movement’s activities align with the international definition of terrorism. In other words, the Algerian junta’s designation of the MAK is rooted in fiction, not reality.
This rebuke from Washington exposes Algiers’ clumsy strategy: using the terrorism bogeyman to silence dissenters and mask its inability to handle peaceful opposition. An overused tactic that fools no one, neither nationally nor internationally.
The Algerian regime: Architect of its own ridicule
The real issue for the Algerian junta is not the MAK but its chronic inability to meet the aspirations of its people. Faced with a struggling economy, endemic corruption, and an exhausted political system, the regime prefers to divert attention by inventing imaginary enemies.
But this theater of the absurd comes at a cost: a total loss of credibility on the international stage. Foreign partners, starting with the United States, are not fooled by Algiers’ antics. By labeling a peaceful movement as terrorist, the Algerian junta only reveals its desperation and its panicked fear of any challenge.
The bold resilience of the MAK:
Ironically, the Algerian accusations have only amplified the MAK’s visibility. By attempting to demonize the movement, the regime has spotlighted the Kabyle issue, attracting international attention. Kabylia, proud and defiant, has become a symbol of peaceful resistance against an oppressive regime.
A junta in disarray:
The Algerian junta, after repeatedly crying wolf, has trapped itself in its rhetoric. Each baseless accusation against the MAK further erodes its legitimacy. Through repression, censorship, and lies, Algiers is heading toward its downfall, a victim of its own contradictions.
The truth is simple and harsh for the junta: ideas cannot be fought with weapons, let alone lies. The MAK continues to peacefully advocate for its aspirations, while the Algerian regime sinks deeper into ridicule. Washington has spoken, and the world is listening. Algiers, however, remains alone with its illusions.
