The Spanish police clarify the statements of Nadia Pajaron, spokesperson for the SUP, regarding Hichem Aboud’s nationality
In a response to “AlgériaFacts,” an independent fact-checking organization that asked her for clarification about the statement she made to the news site Rue 20, which inadvertently cast doubt on Mr. Hichem Aboud’s nationality by mentioning his kidnapping in Barcelona by a terrorist gang acting on behalf of the Algerian government, Ms. Nadia Pajaron, spokesperson for the Spanish police union (SUP), stated that her remarks referred only to a general statement without specifically referring to Mr. Aboud. (Read the two emails exchanged between AlgeriaFacts and Ms. Nadia Pajaron).
In its letter, AlgeriaFacts writes: “Dear Secretary General José Antonio Feijóo López,
I am writing to you, with a copy to Ms. Pajarón and the Legal Affairs Office, to follow up on a request sent to Ms. Pajarón on October 26, 2024. We are AlgeriaFacts, an independent fact-checking organization focused on the accuracy of information.
In her interview with Rue20, Ms. Pajarón referenced Mr. Hichem Aboud’s nationality in both the video and the article. The comments in the video (timestamp 3:32) and in the article explicitly suggest Moroccan nationality, which has been widely reported.
To clarify, we are seeking confirmation as to whether it was:
- An error in attributing the nationality
- A general statement about cooperation with Morocco that does not reflect Mr. Aboud’s nationality, or
- A precise statement about Mr. Aboud’s nationality.

Could you please confirm which of these options best reflects the meaning of the statement? We appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a response. Sincerely, AlgeriaFacts
The response came from Ms. Nadia Pajaron, and it reads: Hello,
In response to your question, I confirm that the statements made by the SUP spokesperson, Ms. Nadia Pajarón, during the interview with Rue20, were only a general statement, made in a broad context, regarding cooperation between Morocco and Spain, without specifically referring to Mr. Aboud. I hope this clarifies your question, and I apologize for any confusion that may have arisen.
Please do not use this email address for any future notifications, as it is no longer in use. Instead, please send notifications to the following address: portavoz@sup.es.
Best regards,
Nadia Pajarón
It is worth noting that Hichem Aboud was not affected by this confusion, stating, “It is more honorable for me to acquire Moroccan nationality, which belongs to a brotherly country that contributed greatly to the liberation of Algeria. I much prefer it to French nationality, which our people fought for seven years to free themselves from. By contrast, the highest leaders of the Algerian revolution, including Mohamed Khider, Mohamed Boudiaf, Abane Ramdane, Ben Bella, Aït Ahmed, and many others, traveled the world with a Moroccan passport.”
