The dismissal of General Djebbar marks the start of a major purge in the ranks of the Algerian army
Yesterday, Sunday, September 22, the handover ceremony took place between the departing Major General Djebbar Mehenna and his successor at the head of the General Directorate of Documentation and Security, General Moussaoui Rochdi Fethi, alias Sadek. The ceremony was held away from the spotlight and television cameras, as has been customary since General Chengriha took charge of the ANP’s general staff.

Since the appointment of General Abdelkader Haddad, alias Nacer El-Djen, with his sinister past as a killer, Algerian intelligence services have regained their legendary confidentiality. From now on, the faces of security service executives will no longer be shown on television, and promotions, assignments, and their career paths will no longer be communicated. Therefore, there will no longer be media coverage of appointments and promotions in structures that are supposed to be the most secretive.
Many changes are expected
Thus, the changes that will take place in the coming months or weeks will no longer be communicated to the public via the press. Even appointment decrees will no longer be published in the Official Journal as they were in the past.
There will be changes at the military command level. It will likely start with the dismissal of Major General Yahia Ali Oulhadj, who will have to bear the responsibility for the nightmare experienced by the supporters of Mouloudia d’Alger during the match against the Tunisians of US Monastir last Saturday. His departure will surely boost Tebboune’s popularity and, on the other hand, weaken Chengriha, the true conspirator behind the operation led by the now ex-head of the DGDSE, Djebbar Mehenna.
Speaking of the DGDSE, it is worth noting that among the expected changes is the return of Colonel Salim after almost five years of retirement. This son of a Mujahid, born in Bordj Bou-Arreridj, is known for his moral integrity and competence—two qualities that led to his marginalization under the rule of General Toufik and his retirement following the arrival of the Chengriha-Tebboune duo.
There is also talk of the return of Major General Mohamed Kaïdi, a man sacrificed by Chengriha, to whom he will soon succeed in light of the new developments that will bring many changes.
