Syrian Journalist Moussa Al-Omar: From Bashar Al-Assad’s Intelligence to Mediating Between the Algerian Regime and Revolutionary Syria

Sources close to Algeria’s internal security indicate that Syrian journalist Moussa Al-Omar, formerly one of Bashar Al-Assad’s most notable informants in Britain, managed to infiltrate the ranks of the Syrian revolution until he reached the office of Ahmad Al-Shar’, the strongman in Syria.
Moussa Al-Omar, who has worked for several Arab television channels, aspires to head Ahmad Al-Shar’s office to influence him in favor of the entities that back him. Among the countries he collaborates with is Algeria, under the leadership of the Tebboune-Chengriha duo.

Approaching the Algerian Regime
Through a fake Algerian-British dissident residing in London, Moussa Al-Omar began to draw closer to the Algerian military regime. He aims to strengthen relations between Algeria and the new regime in Syria led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (also known as the Al-Julani regime).

Reviving Algerian-Syrian Relations
Moussa Al-Omar appears to seek to restore Algerian-Syrian relations to their former state during Bashar Al-Assad’s era. Algeria, which has always been a steadfast ally of the Syrian regime in the past, has shown, since Assad’s downfall, a desire to rebuild its ties with Damascus.
What raises controversy is that Moussa Al-Omar seems to play the role of mediator between the Algerian regime and the new Syrian regime led by Al-Julani, aiming to bring the two sides closer.

Support for the Polisario Front
The reason behind this rapprochement between Moussa Al-Omar and the Algerian regime could be Algeria’s desire to maintain Syria’s recognition of the Polisario Front. The Algerian regime considers this recognition crucial for its political stance in the region.
For his part, Moussa Al-Omar seeks to exploit this relationship to bolster his financial position through Algerian support. However, he overlooks the fact that the new Syrian regime has good relations with Morocco and that withdrawing recognition of the “fictional republic” is only a matter of time.
