Statement from Lawyer Dalil Essakali on the Abduction of Journalist Hicham Aboud

Dalil Essakali, the French lawyer of writer and journalist Hicham Aboud, says he suspects that Hicham Aboud was kidnapped in Barcelona last Thursday when he landed at El Prat Airport, where he disappeared.

In statements to the Spanish news agency “EFE,” the lawyer confirmed that there is not much evidence about his disappearance, but he pointed out that there are justified suspicions that he may have been abducted.

He added, “This is not the first time he has been the target of a kidnapping attempt,” recalling that the French judiciary opened an investigation into an attempted abduction of Hicham Aboud in 2021.

The lawyer further stated, “Currently, the case is under investigation, so it is confidential, and I cannot provide more details,” refusing to clarify whether they had filed a complaint with the Spanish authorities regarding the matter.

In his statements to the Moroccan channel “Media TV,” the lawyer was more explicit, directly indicating that the Algerian regime is the main suspect in the abduction of Hicham Aboud.

It is noteworthy that Hicham Aboud landed last Thursday evening in Barcelona, coming from Brussels, and since 3 p.m., no news has been heard about his whereabouts, and he has not answered any of the phones he usually uses.
