Kheireddine Zetchi placed in temporary detention

The former president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), Kheireddine Zetchi, was placed in provisional detention on Wednesday by the investigating judge of the third chamber of the economic and financial criminal pole at the Sidi M’hamed court.
Zetchi, who presided over the FAF from 2017 to 2021, is facing charges related to corruption, along with others involved.
It should be noted that on July 1st, the prosecutor’s office at the economic and financial criminal pole of the Algerian Court of Justice announced the opening of an investigation following suspicions of corruption within the Algerian Football Federation. These suspicions involved several officials accused of concluding contracts in violation of internal procedures to grant undue privileges.
The investigation, which involved fourteen suspects, includes former presidents of the federation (Z. K.), (Z. D.), and (C. A.), as well as former secretaries-general (D. M.) and (S. M.), the former general manager (A. A.), and three legal entities.
The charges against them include “abuse of office,” “embezzlement of public funds,” “complicity in embezzlement,” “entering into contracts in violation of legal and organizational provisions to grant undue privileges,” and “benefiting from undue privileges in the context of contracts with the State or affiliated structures or companies.”
In October, the two former secretaries-general of the FAF, Mohamed Saâd and Mounir D’bichi, along with the former general administration director, Abdelghani Nekkache, were placed in provisional detention.
Today, it is Zetchi’s turn to be placed in provisional detention while awaiting the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.
