Hezbollah Announces the Death of Hassan Nasrallah Following Israeli Airstrike
Hezbollah announced on Saturday the death of its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, following what it called a “treacherous Zionist attack” targeting the southern suburbs of Beirut.
In a statement, Hezbollah said, “His Eminence Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, has fallen as a martyr alongside his illustrious comrades, whom he led to victory over the past thirty years.”
The statement praised Nasrallah’s leadership, highlighting his pivotal role in resisting Israel and his unwavering dedication to the cause of Palestinian liberation, a cause that defined his life until his “martyrdom.”
Nasrallah, who had served as Secretary-General since 1992, played a key role in Lebanon’s resistance movement, especially in confrontations with Israeli forces. His death marks a significant moment in the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
The statement reaffirmed Hezbollah’s commitment to Nasrallah’s mission, emphasizing that “His martyrdom will only strengthen the resolve of the resistance to continue the fight against the Zionist enemy and to liberate Palestine.”
Earlier this Saturday, the Israeli army claimed to have eliminated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an operation targeting Hezbollah’s central command, located under a residential building in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Since Monday, Israel has intensified its bombardment of Lebanon, marking one of the most severe offensives against Hezbollah in nearly a year of conflict.
In response, Hezbollah launched several hundred rockets at Israeli military sites, settlements, and even the Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv, with Israeli authorities remaining silent about casualties and damage, according to some observers.
Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in war since the start of Israel’s offensive on Gaza, which has claimed the lives of nearly 41,600 people, mostly women and children, following Hamas’ cross-border attack on October 7, 2023.
The international community has warned that these strikes could escalate the conflict regionally, as the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate.
