Foiled Smuggling Attempt of a Large Sum in Foreign Currency
Customs officers at the Bab Sebta border crossing, in collaboration with the police, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large sum in foreign currency, estimated at 254,040 euros and 1,800 Chinese yuan, equivalent to 2,744,321.5 dirhams.
A customs source explained that the amount was discovered in the vehicle inspection area at the entry point, thanks to the cooperation between customs and the police. It was carefully hidden inside the dashboard and in the gear shift cavity of a Peugeot 5008 registered in Spain, driven by a Senegalese citizen.
The same source added that customs handed the individual over to the police, who then transferred him to the judicial police in M’diq to continue the investigation under the guidance of the public prosecutor’s office. The sum and the vehicle were seized by customs.
