Poetry is creating yet another bridge between Spanish and Moroccan societies, adding to the existing ones among people of Science and Literature, Academics, Athletes, and Media Professionals, among others.
The Andalusian-Moroccan Friendship Association, the Balearia Foundation, and the University of Cordoba will present on Thursday, September 19, at the Cordoba Auditorium, the MATRIA collection of contemporary Spanish and Moroccan feminine poetry. The event will be attended by Moroccan diplomatic representatives and members of the Cervantes Institute, the Three Cultures Foundation, and the Andalusian Regional Government.
The Andalusian-Moroccan Friendship Association, Ibn Roshd Forum, chaired by Spanish poet and writer José Sarriá, has over a hundred personalities from the arts, culture, and economics of both countries, and aims to “promote the spirit of harmony and coexistence that has existed for centuries between Andalusia and Morocco.” A non-profit association that “fosters avenues of understanding between the two peoples, regardless of the political, diplomatic, or other circumstances that may differentiate their respective governments.”
For its part, the Balearia Foundation has been supporting for two decades “social, cultural, sports, or environmental activities” organized in the territories where the shipping company of the same name operates, with a particular focus on Spain and Morocco. Its main objective is “to contribute to the well-being of society by promoting culture, respecting the environment, and enhancing social cohesion.”
At the event scheduled at the University of Cordoba, poets María Rosal, Touria Majdouline, and Juana Castro, included in the MATRIA collection, as well as Cordoban poets Marisa Calero, Concha García, Pilar Sanabria, María José Mures, Rafi Hames, Balbina Prior, Gema Albornoz, and Mari Cruz Garrido, will read their poems.
