Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced on Wednesday evening the success of joint mediation efforts led by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, resulting in an agreement between Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza and an exchange of prisoners and hostages.
The Qatari Prime Minister emphasized that the agreement includes a permanent and sustainable ceasefire between the two sides, in addition to the delivery of large quantities of food and humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He explained that the ceasefire agreement will come into effect starting January 19, with the specific time of implementation to be determined later.
He also noted that, with both parties agreeing to the deal, work will begin tonight to finalize all implementation procedures. The first phase of the agreement, lasting 42 days, will include a total ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the east, away from densely populated areas, to reposition along Gaza’s borders.
He further mentioned the existence of a document outlining procedures and operational mechanisms for implementing the agreement.
