The Higher Institute of Journalism and Communication (ISJC) hosted an extraordinary event by welcoming renowned writer and journalist Hichem Aboud, a prominent figure in committed journalism and a staunch opponent of the Algerian regime, for a special conference titled: “The Greater Maghreb and Geopolitical Challenges: Between Hopes and Realities.”
The event gathered a captivated audience, including journalism students, faculty members, and many distinguished guests, among them Abdelkebir Khchichine, President of the National Press Union (SNP).

As Hichem Aboud entered the late Dr. M’hamed Talal hall—named after his former university professor in Algeria—he was greeted with a resounding ovation, a clear sign of the admiration he inspires.

He called for a united and strong Maghreb, capable of tackling contemporary challenges while overcoming the artificial divisions inherited from history or maintained by the Algerian military regime.In a passionate speech, Aboud condemned the political and economic obstacles imposed by Algerian leaders, emphasizing the crucial role of youth and the media in building a shared future. His courageous and insightful words deeply resonated with ISJC journalism students, who felt empowered to become agents of change for a better Maghreb.
