Morocco will soon receive an estimated 172 additional Abrams tanks as part of a deal signed in 2018 (which was previously delayed due to various circumstances including the COVID-19 pandemic), according to recent reports from the official website of the U.S. Excess Defense Articles (EDA) program.
These tanks will be upgraded to the modern M1A2 standard. With this deal, the total number of Abrams tanks in the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces will rise to 394.
The M1A2 Abrams tank is one of the most advanced main battle tanks in the world. It was designed by General Dynamics Land Systems and named after General Creighton Abrams.
