Algeria: Workers at the National Agency for Dams and Transfers, 3 months without salaries

“In Algeria, we cannot speak without risking imprisonment. The situation is becoming unbearable, and we need voices like yours to relay the truth,” write to us workers from the National Agency for Dams and Transfers.

“We work at the National Agency for Dams and Transfers, and since 2019, we have been suffering from repeated salary delays. Today, it’s worse than ever: in three months of work, we’ve only received one salary. Even with one paycheck, it’s hard to make ends meet, so three months with nothing is impossible to live with,” they add.

“In the meantime, the authorities are throwing our money out the window, distributing millions of dollars abroad, while we, Algerian workers, are abandoned and reduced to poverty. They hold us hostage while they continue to plunder the country.

As you know very well, this country has become a giant prison where no one has the right to speak, even about their most basic rights. It’s literally Russian roulette: a single word can land you in prison under the pretext of terrorism,” they read further.

They add, “But what these old fools – as you often say – don’t realize is that they are triggering their own alarm! And the day it rings, they will end up like their accomplices. Enough is enough, it’s too much!

We have no way to express our anger here; the repression is too strong. That’s why we are writing to you to relay this reality on your YouTube channel and the electronic newspaper lemediterraneen24.com, so the world knows what’s happening in Algeria. Since 2019, we have been suffering from repeated salary delays. Today, it’s worse than ever: in three months of work, we’ve only received one salary. Even with one paycheck, it’s hard to make ends meet, so three months with nothing is impossible to live with,” they conclude.
